A BRIEF HISTORY

In the summer of 2013, these Bible verses inspired a group of volunteers from First Baptist Church San Marcos to serve their community and form an organization they called Mission Able. While the name at the time was tentative, the guiding principles of Ephesians 3:20 -21 remained the same. In July 2013, Mission Able officially kicked off with 27 projects in one week.

The first Mission Able project involved a woman in Redwood, a neighborhood in San Marcos, Texas, who lived in her home with her mother and children. The City had cited the woman for trash, so volunteers from Mission Able stepped in to cut up a mobile home chassis and remove debris from her front yard. One of the Mission Able volunteers found a man living in a dog house behind the home. The homeowner allowed this man to live in the dog house in exchange for help with tasks around the house. Mission Able volunteers asked if he would help with the service project in exchange for lunch with the rest of the workers. When asked his name, the man said, “my name is Abel”.  Abel helped with several more projects that week. Afterwards, Abel was asked how he might be blessed in return, and he asked for an outdoor shower. So Mission Able purchased him one. Abel’s servant heart and the cycle of blessing others to be blessed in return confirmed the name of the organization should be Mission Able.

Since then, God has used Mission Able to do more than asked or imagined. The projects have included painting nails at a nursing home, striping community soccer fields, mowing, bathroom remodels and more. Mission Able has also grown beyond that initial group of volunteers from First Baptist Church San Marcos. There are now Missions Able teams across San Marcos, in other churches and para-church organizations. OUR MISSION

Mission Able seeks to offer hope, vitality, and dignity through collaboration between neighbors, and coordination of resources to households or individuals with unmet needs in the love of Jesus Christ and spirit of Ephesians 3:20 – 21.
